The medium Wirtschaftsjournalist:in honours journalists from the iq digital premium portfolio

Michael Freitag, deputy editor-in-chief of manager magazin, was voted ‘Business Journalist of the Year’. The jury praised his analytical strength, thorough research and precise classification – especially in the automotive industry. This means that, following Steffen Klusmann (2015), another winner comes from the editorial team of manager magazin.

Larissa Holzki (Handelsblatt) and Horst von Buttlar (WirtschaftsWoche) took second and third place. Holzki impressed with her broad AI reporting in all formats: ‘writing, podcasts, stage, a rare combination’. Von Buttlar has ‘significantly revamped WiWo in print and online’ as editor-in-chief.

Other top 10 placements went to Astrid Doerner (New York correspondent for Handelsblatt), Lukas Zdrzalek (editor at WirtschaftsWoche), Soenke Iwersen (Head of Investigative Research at Handelsblatt), Michael Verfürden (Editor of Investigative Research at Handelsblatt), and Sebastian Matthes (Editor-in-Chief at Handelsblatt), who also took second place in the ‘Executives & Media Makers of the Year’ category. Felix Holtermann (US bureau chief at Handelsblatt), Annett Meiritz (US correspondent in Washington for Handelsblatt), Martin Dowideit (deputy editor-in-chief at WirtschaftsWoche) and Yasmin Osman (editor at Handelsblatt), shine in the subcategories. In addition, the Handelsblatt editorial team takes second place as “Editorial Team of the Year”.

Manager Magazin is also celebrated – for its relevance, research and backbone. In addition to Michael Freitag, Isabell Hülsen (editor-in-chief), Christoph Neßhöver (editor, List of the richest Germans), Christian Schütte (senior editor, portfolio) and Prof. Dr Henrik Müller (columnist manager magazin and DER SPIEGEL) are also honoured. In addition, the entire manager magazin team was honoured as ‘Editorial Team of the Year’.

Honoured from the SPIEGEL Group: Antonia Götsch (editor-in-chief at Harvard Business Manager), Michael Sauga (editor at SPIEGEL) & Ursula Weidenfeld (Columnist DER SPIEGEL).

Marc Beise (Italy correspondent), who shaped the business section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung for over 20 years, is honoured for his life's work.

The award is organised annually by Wirtschaftsjournalist:in and medium magazin, and the jury comprises 26 experts from the media and communications sectors.
